The sequel to LL Prismaset A (2003–17), LL Prismaset B presents ten additional derivations produced from the exact same matrix, which share identical font metrics with the original cuts.
Mauro Paolozzi further explored LL Prismaset’s potential after working on digital emulations of his stone-carving experiments in 2012. In collaboration with Cornel Windlin and Arve Båtevik, he produced a number of new formal solutions. Arve drew up the chosen cuts, and over the course of this work proposed refinements to some design details. These notes eventually led to a number of formal improvements in the original Prismaset fonts.
Tentatively named ‘The Sign-writer Edition’, LL Prismaset B compiles ten new cuts offering surprising formal richness and variety, taking the development of this classic decorative multiline typeface to the extreme. Three of the resulting fonts (Inline, Fatline, and Contrast) offer complete alternate cuts, providing further stylistic variation on the same theme. As with the A set, highest care was taken to preserve the spirit of Rudolf Koch’s extraordinary Prisma font, which continues to lend a timeless aesthetic quality to the new designs.
